Current Advisory Board Opportunities

Early Learning Coalition Board

Early Learning Coalition Board

Applications are being accepted for one seat on the Early Learning Coalition (ELC), which oversees the School Readiness Subsidized Child Care Program, as well as the Voluntary Pre-kindergarten (VPK) Program. These impactful programs assist families with achieving economic self-sufficiency, as well as prepare children for success in school by providing developmentally appropriate educational experiences.

Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, Sept. 4. 

Applications must include an Advisory Board Application (pages 1-3), and a resume or a Curriculum Vitae (CV). The application is available for download at the top of this page. All applicants must complete the new form, even if they have applied previously since the application has been updated.

Eligibility

Applicants must be residents of Manatee County. 

Commitment

The ELC meets quarterly from 11 a.m. to noon in the ELC board room on the fifth floor at 600 8th Avenue West, Palmetto. Other meetings may be scheduled as necessary.

Children's Services Advisory Board - six seats

Children's Services Advisory Board

Applications are being accepted for six seats on the Children's Services Advisory Board (CSAB), which makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners about priorities and expenditures of the County's dedicated millage for children's services.

Applications must be submitted by 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 16. Applications must include: 1) Advisory Board Application, 2) Children’s Services Advisory Board Supplemental Questions (Page 4 of the Advisory Board Application, and 3) a resume or a Curriculum Vitae (CV). The application and supplemental questionnaire can be found for download at the top of this page.

Eligibility

Applicants must be residents of Manatee County. The open seats on the CSAB are for two- or three-year terms that begin October 1. The vacancies include:
• one representative from United Way of Manatee County (3-year term);
• one representative from Department of Children & Families (3-year term);
• one licensed mental health professional and
• three (3) child advocates, not affiliated with any agency receiving county funds.

Employees, owners or voting board members of agencies that receive funding from Manatee County, or individuals who contract with agencies that receive County funding, are not eligible to serve as a child advocate on this advisory board. (two 3-year term seats; one 2-year term seat)

Commitment

The CSAB meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 3 p.m. on the fourth floor of the Manatee County Administrative Center, 1112 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton. The board meets weekly during the annual program funding review process from April through early June; and a full day retreat in October each year.

Healthcare Advisory Board - four vacancies

Healthcare Advisory Board

Applications are being accepted for four vacancies on the Health Care Advisory Board for representatives to occupy the seats of (1) higher education, (1) health care, and (2) business.

Applications are due September 3, 2018, at 5 p.m.  Supplemental questions to the application are on page 5 of the form.  A resume or C.V. is also required for consideration for appointment to this advisory board. The application is available for download at the top of this page.

Eligibility

Employees, owners or voting board members of agencies that receive funding from Manatee County Government, or individuals who contract with agencies that receive County funding are ineligible to serve on the board with the exception of practicing physician who may receive no more than one percent of their gross income from county-funded healthcare.

Commitment

Applicants should be willing to meet a minimum of eight times per year on the fourth Wednesday of each month from 5-7 p.m. in the 9th Floor BCC Conference Room of the County Administrative Center, 1112 Manatee Avenue West. Other meetings may be scheduled as necessary.

Planning Commission - two seats

Planning Commission

Applications will be accepted until Friday, September 7, 2018 for two seats on the Planning Commission, a citizens advisory committee that makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners on land use items.

The vacancies are for terms expiring in October. One Planning Commissioner is seeking reappointment and the other seat will be vacant at expiration of the term.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be registered voters in Manatee County.
  • No particular expertise is required, but applicants with experience or training in planning, engineering, environmental science and the development industry may be given additional consideration for an appointment.
  • Planning Commission members cannot be employed by the County or serve as a member of another land development-related advisory board serving unincorporated Manatee County.

Commitment

The Planning Commission is composed of seven members who are appointed by the Board of County Commissioners for four-year terms.

The Planning Commission meets on the second Thursday of each month at 9 a.m. in the First Floor Chambers of the Manatee County Administrative Building, 1112 Manatee Ave. W.
