All in-person programs, events and meeting room use are cancelled until further notice. See below for online programs. 

We have free computer, smartphone, and eBook classes at our libraries. Always check the Calendar of Events and your branch for additional classes. 

The library offers online resources, books, and DVDs that can help you learn about basic and advanced computing.  Our online resource LearningExpress Library includes videos and tutorials in computer and internet basics. You will need your library card number and PIN to access LearningExpress. If you do not have a library card, see our Library Cards page for information on how to obtain one.

Morningstar Investment Research Center Financial Database: Fri 11/6, 10am

Morningstar Investment Research Center is a financial database that provides independent ratings of mutual funds as well as providing financial news that may affect market values. The library’s  subscription includes everything from the print edition of Morningstar as well as analysis of stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

Value Line Financial Database: Fri 11/20, 10am

Value Line is a diverse financial database that evaluates stocks and mutual funds as well as providing financial news that may affect market values. The Library’s subscription includes the Value Line Investment Survey and the Value Line Small & Mid-Cap Survey.

Learn the basics of Windows 10 computer and laptop settings and built-in security features. This class will be taught by a Microsoft employee.

Email Basics: Wed 10/7, 1pm

Learn the basics of using your email, such as how to send and read emails, attach documents, and detect spam emails.

Microsoft Word Basics: Wed 10/14, 1pm

Learn the basics of using Microsoft Word as well as Word online. Learn how to create and retrieve documents and do basic formatting.

PowerPoint Basics: Fri 11/13, 1pm

Learn the basics of creating a presentation with PowerPoint.

LinkedIn: Thur 12/3,10:30am

Learn the basics of LinkedIn, a popular social media platform for professionals, job-seekers, and small business owners. This class will be taught by a Microsoft employee.

Excel Basics: Thur 12/10, 10:30am

Learn the basics of using Excel to create helpful spreadsheets and stay organized. This class will be taught by a Microsoft employee.

Downtown Central Library

Learn from staff how to download or stream eBooks, eAudiobooks, movies, and music from the library.

Braden River Library

Learn from staff and volunteers how to download or stream eBooks, eAudiobooks, movies, and music from the library. No appointment needed. Drop-in at any time during the following: 

  • Tuesdays, 2-4 p.m.
  • Wednesdays, 2-4 p.m.
  • Thursdays, 1-4 p.m.
  • Fridays, Noon - 2 p.m.

Island Library

Volunteers are available Tuesdays 2-4pm with no appointment. Volunteers are only available January to April.

Palmetto Library

Get basic help with your tablet or computer from staff. Also learn how to download eBooks, eAudiobooks, movies, and music from the library.

  • Second Saturday of the month,  9:30-11:30 a.m. 
  • Fourth Thursday of the month, 2-4 p.m.

Rocky Bluff Library

Volunteers can help you learn to use your computer, smartphone, tablet, or e-reader.  

No appointment needed- drop-in on First and Third Saturdays of the month, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. 

South Manatee Library

Tech Tutors can help you learn to use your computer, smartphone, tablet, or e-reader.  

Call (941) 755-3892 for a half hour one-on-one appointment on Saturdays, 2-4 p.m., and Tuesdays, 5-7 p.m.
