Why volunteer with the Library?

Volunteers are a very important part of the Library! Manatee Library volunteers are beginner or skilled individuals who perform a variety of tasks that support library staff in providing excellent library services. Volunteers meet new people, learn new skills or use ones they already have, gain hours for college scholarships, and give back to the community.

What do volunteers do?

Volunteers may assist in the following areas:

  • Shelving library materials
  • Local history and genealogy aid
  • Programs, special events, and outreach (including Homebound Delivery)
  • Special projects
  • Computer help
  • Teen advisory board
  • Friends of the Library bookstores (Friends' members only)

How do I register?

Registration with Manatee County is required before volunteering with the Library. Once you register as a Manatee County volunteer, Human Resources will process your application. For updates on the status of your volunteer application, please email hr@mymanatee.org or call (941) 748-4501.

Once your application has been approved, Library volunteer coordinators will contact you.
