The Iron Sharpening Iron program provides VPK-12th graders with age-appropriate and year-round, weekly literacy and academic support, in addition to cultural, educational and recreational opportunities. Iron Sharpening Iron leverages community partnerships to expose program participants to a variety of local resources during out of school time: after school and summertime. We build relationships with the whole family to provide them with the support and tools necessary to set and achieve academic, behavioral, and personal goals for and with their children. Services are provided at the Anna Gayle and Kelly-Brown Career Development Centers in Palmetto. During the school year, the centers operate after school Monday through Thursday. During the summer, the centers operate on varying schedules while providing services in the morning and afternoon on Monday through Thursday.

Our Mission Our program model, “Iron Sharpening Iron,” focuses on the 40 Developmental Assets identified by the nationally-recognized Search Institute. The foundational objectives concentrate on building blocks of healthy development that help youth grow up healthy, caring and responsible. Our vision for our children is that they will graduate high school, pursue a career and marry prior to parenting a child.
