MANATEE COUNTY, FL (January 23, 2024) – The Manatee County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) has named Paul Panik as the Employee of the Year for 2023.

“I take great pleasure in helping other people succeed," said Panik, addressing the BOCC this morning. “I’d like to thank all the County commissioners, the administrator, all the other wonderful people that I interact with in the county. I appreciate all that you do.”

Panik has worked as an Environmental Program Manager for the County since 1988 and has been responsible for a variety of environmental oversight projects. He was an instrumental team member in the closure of the SR70 Landfill/Braden River Park. He also was able to work with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) to expedite the repurposing of the Hidden Harbor Park near the Ft. Hamer Boat Ram for overflow trailer parking.

Over his 35-year career with the County, Panik has served as a liaison with FDEP and water management districts. He also has administered the County’s Fertilizer Ordinance since 2012.

Panik was nominated by his supervisors, Environmental Protection Division Manager Alissa Powers and Director of Natural Resources Charlie Hunsicker for displaying the highest level of professionalism and commitment to the community saying, “Paul is able to reduce and remediate potential sources of groundwater pollution in Manatee County on a daily basis.”

“Thank you for all the hard work you do,” said Commission Chair Mike Rahn. “We really appreciate everything you do to add to the team at Natural Resources.”

“The way that you spoke up here today speaks volumes about your personality and the kind of person that you are,” said District 2 Commissioner Amanda Ballard. “You took the time to recognize the other people … and we really appreciate having you at the County.” In addition to a bonus day off and a $500 bonus, Commissioners also proclaimed January 23, 2024, as Paul Panik Day in Manatee County.
