The Manatee County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) approved nearly $37,000 in funding initiatives through neighborhood grants.

Neighborhood Enhancement Grant recipients must demonstrate community support and involvement in both the application and implementation phases of proposed projects and programs. These grants are available to strengthen neighborhood associations and the communities they serve.

Commissioners approved up to $9,672.02 of landscaping enhancement reimbursements for the Palma Sola Shores Condo Association. They are also providing up to $3,233.32 in reimbursement to the Old Mill Preserve Homeowners Association for beautification of their front entrance. The River Club Homeowner’s Association will receive up to $7,500 in reimbursement for their efforts to remove invasive species in their community. The North River Estates Community Association will receive up to $6,500 in reimbursement for neighborhood environmental improvements.

Neighborhood Action Plan Grants are also designed to assist the neighborhood associations and the communities that they serve. Neighborhoods must have a Neighborhood Action Plan adopted by the BOCC. Commissioners moved to award the Parrish Civic Association with a $10,000 Neighborhood Action Plan Grant to install a Community Mural.

“This is wonderful news for these neighborhoods,” said Manatee County District 1 Commissioner James Satcher. “We are pleased to help our citizens take action on projects that are important to them and their neighbors.”

Assistance in applications for the grants came through Manatee County’s Department of Community & Veterans Services. Staff works throughout the year throughout the county to prepare and manage contracts for numerous organizations providing services to the citizens of Manatee County. These services include health, mental health, substance abuse, criminal justice and a wide variety of other human services provided by community Non-Profit Agencies.
