MANATEE COUNTY, FL (Aug. 24, 2018) — Manatee County is accepting applications for one vacancy on the Historic Preservation Board, a citizen’s advisory committee that makes decisions regarding Manatee County’s archaeologically, historically and aesthetically significant sites, districts, and zones.

Applicants must be registered voters in Manatee County.  No particular expertise is required, but applicants with knowledge of archaeological, historical or architectural development or have deep concern for the preservation, development and enhancement of historic resources in the County are given additional consideration for an appointment.

The board works:
  • to encourage historical and archaeological preservation;
  • to identify historic buildings and sites and archaeological sites in Manatee County;
  • to encourage property owners to seek local historic landmark designation;
  • to ensure appropriate preservation, restoration, renovation, development and adaptive reuse of historical buildings and archaeological sites;
  • develop and maintain a system of survey and inventory of historic properties.
Historic Preservation Board members cannot be employed by the County or serve as a member of another land development-related advisory board serving unincorporated Manatee County.

The Historic Preservation Board is composed of five volunteer members who are appointed by the County Commission. The group meets a minimum of four times a year in the first floor Commission Chambers of Manatee County Administrative Building, 1112 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.

Applications are due Sept. 7 and may be found online at www.mymanatee.org/advisoryboards
