Purpose

The Public Safety Coordinating Council shall assess the population status of all correctional facilities to ensure the authorized capacities of such facilities, as established by the Florida Department of Corrections, are not exceeded, and make recommendations as to release programs, gain-time schedules, applicable bail bond schedules, and confinement status of inmates housed within each facility owned by the County. The Council may also develop a local correctional facilities plan for future construction needs.

Membership Requirements

Membership shall be as specified by Chapter 951.26, Florida Statutes.

Applications

The Advisory Board application must be completed and submitted for the applicant to be considered for appointment. The application is available for downloading on the Apply for an Advisory Board page.

Meetings

The Public Safety Coordinating Council has elected to meet on the following dates in 2023 from Noon – 1:30 pm. All meetings will be in the Manatee County Government Administration Building – Manatee/Osprey Room 5th Floor 1112 Manatee Avenue West Bradenton, FL. 34205 unless otherwise noticed. Meetings may be rescheduled, or a special meeting called by the council at any regular meeting.

July 19, 2023 - Regular Meeting– Reporting Period – May – June 2023 – Canceled with no rescheduled date 

September 20, 2023- Regular Meeting – Reporting Period – July – August 2023

November 15, 2023 - Regular Meeting – Reporting Period – September – October 2023


JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANTS

Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant
Application Process: Applications will open October 15, 2023, and are due no later than December 31, 2023.

Review Timeline

January 2024: All applications presented to Public Safety Coordinating Council for review.

March 2024: Public Safety Coordinating Council will make recommendations for Justice Assistance Grant funding.

April-July 2024: Estimated timeframe for solicitation release.

August-October 2024: Funding recommendations presented to Board of County Commissioners for approval.
