Resiliency

Climate Adaptation

In an effort to become a more resilient government and community, Manatee County is actively researching the potential impacts of climate change and sea level rise. We partnered with the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council to assess the County's vulnerability to such topics with regards to three risk categories - infrastructure, environment, and society.  Visit the County's Climate Adaptation Portal to learn more about these results.

Regional Resiliency

The County joined others of the Tampa Bay region to create a resiliency coalition in October 2018. This coalition will help serve as a means to coordinate resiliency and mitigation efforts across city and county lines. You can learn more about the Resiliency Coalition's MOU here.

In March 2020, Manatee County, along with the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council, Pinellas County, Hillsborough County, and the City of Largo, were awarded the NREL Solar Energy Innovation Network grant. This grant led to the creation of Project Clear Sky Tampa Bay, which is a regional effort to research solar energy benefits for our region's critical infrastructure. Conservation

The Parks and Natural Resources department is responsible for habitat/wildlife management and public access on nearly 30,000 acres of conserved public land. Their goal is to "conserve and protect" the natural resources of Manatee County using adaptive management and minimal impact public access and utilization. Visit the Parks and Natural Resources page for more information.
