Affordable Housing Advisory Board

Affordable Housing Advisory Board

Applications are being accepted until the positions are filled and may be completed online.

Eligibility

Applications are open for the following positions: 

  • A Manatee County resident engaged in the residential home building industry in connection with affordable housing
  • A Manatee County resident engaged in the banking or mortgage banking industry in connection with affordable housing
  • A Manatee County resident who represents areas of labor engaged in home building in connection with affordable housing
  • A Manatee County resident engaged as an advocate for low-income residents
  • A Manatee County resident who works with a for-profit provider of affordable housing
  • A Manatee County resident who works for a not-for-profit affordable housing provider
  • A Manatee County resident who is a real estate professional in connection with affordable housing
  • A Manatee County resident who serves on a local planning agency pursuant to F.S. 163.3174
  • A Manatee County resident who lives in unincorporated Manatee County
  • A Manatee County resident who represents employers in unincorporated Manatee County
  • A Manatee County resident who represents essential services personnel, as defined in the local housing assistance plan

Commitment

The group meets on the third Monday of each month from May through November at 3 p.m. in the Honorable Patricia M. Glass Chambers on the first floor of the County Administration Building at 1112 Manatee Avenue West, Bradenton.

Tourist Development Council Advisory Board

Tourist Development Council Advisory Board

Applications will be accepted until June 1 for two seats on the Tourist Development Council, a citizens advisory committee that makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners on the expenditures of tourist tax revenues.

Eligibility

The TDC is seeking to fill the seats of two elected municipal officials; at least one must be from Bradenton, the County's largest municipality. All applicants must be registered voters in Manatee County.

Commitment

The TDC is comprised of nine members who make recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners concerning the effective operation of the projects set forth in the Tourist Development Plan and the uses for which tourist development tax revenues may be spent. Meetings are on the third Monday of every month at 9 a.m. at various locations throughout Manatee County.

Value Adjustment Advisory Board

Value Adjustment Advisory Board

Applications will be accepted until May 12, and may be completed online.

Manatee County has an opening for a citizen member on the Value Adjustment Board which hears appeals regarding denied property tax exemptions, petitions relating to assessments, and appeals concerning ad valorem tax deferrals. 

  • The VAB appoints special magistrates to hear petitions relating to:assessments filed pursuant to Section 194.011(3), F.S.;
  • complaints relating to homestead exemptions as provided under Section 196.151, F.S.;
  • appeals from exemptions denied, or disputes arising from exemptions granted, upon the filing of exemption applications under Section 196.011, F.S.; and
  • appeals concerning ad valorem tax deferrals and classifications.

After the special magistrate hearings, the VAB meets to consider and act upon the recommended decisions of the magistrates.

Eligibility

Applicants must own homestead property within Manatee County; and must not be a member or employee of any taxing authority in this state, or represent property owners, property appraisers, tax collectors, or taxing authorities in any administrative or judicial review of property taxes.

Commitment

The Board meets at least twice a year in the first floor Chambers of Manatee County Administrative Center, 1112 Manatee Avenue West, Bradenton, Florida 34205.
