Current Advisory Board Opportunities

Environmental Lands Management & Acquisition Advisory Committee

Environmental Lands Management & Acquisition Advisory Committee

Applications for two vacant seats on the Environmental Land Management and Acquisition Committee (ELMAC) will be accepted until July 30.

Eligibility

The vacancies are for the following seats:

  • One-year term for an at-large seat available to residents of Manatee County
  • Two-year term for an at-large seat available to a member schooled in Natural Science

Commitment

The group meets on the first Monday of every other month from 6 to 7 p.m. in the first floor Chambers of Manatee County Administration Building, 1112 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.

Historic Preservation Board

Historic Preservation Board

Applications will be accepted until August 3, 2018, for one position on the Historic Preservation Board, a citizens advisory committee that makes decisions regarding Manatee County’s archaeologically, historically and aesthetically significant sites, districts and zones.

Eligibility

  • Must be registered voters in Manatee County
  • Should have knowledge of archaeological, historical or architectural development, or a deep concern for the preservation, development and enhancement of historic resources in the County

Commitment

The Historic Preservation Board is composed of five volunteer members who are appointed by the County Commission for four-year terms. The group meets a minimum of four times a year in the First Floor Chambers of the Manatee County Administrative Building, 1112 Manatee Ave. W.

The board’s responsibilities include: 

  • Encourage historical and archaeological preservation.
  • Identify historic buildings and sites and archaeological sites in Manatee County.
  • Encourage property owners to seek local historic landmark designation. 
  • Ensure appropriate preservation, restoration, renovation, development and adaptive reuse of historical buildings and archaeological sites.
  • Develop and maintain a system of survey and inventory of historic properties.

Tourist Development Council

Tourist Development Council Advisory Board

Applications will be accepted until July 17, 2018, for three seats on the Tourist Development Council, a citizens advisory committee that makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners on the expenditures of tourist tax revenues.

Eligibility

  • One seat for  an owner/operator (General Manager) of a motel, hotel, recreational vehicle park or other tourist accommodation in the County and subject to the 5 percent resort tax in Manatee County; and
  • Two seats for applicants who are involved in the tourist industry and who have demonstrated an interest in tourist development; however, the applicants must not be subject to the 5 percent resort tax in Manatee County.
  • All applicants must be registered voters in Manatee County.


Commitment

The TDC is comprised of nine members who make recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners concerning the effective operation of the projects set forth in the Tourist Development Plan and the uses for which tourist development tax revenues may be spent. Meetings are on the third Monday of every month at 9 a.m. at various locations throughout Manatee County.


The hotelier term expires June 30, 2021; the interested citizen terms expire June 30, 2022.
