Applications are being accepted for five seats on the  Health Care Advisory Board, a volunteer group that evaluates, monitors and discusses the healthcare services in Manatee County and makes recommendations to the County Commission regarding the funding of healthcare services of Manatee County.

The vacancies are for the following seats:

  • mental health
  • healthcare
  • a practicing physician who received no more than one percent of his/her gross income from County-funded healthcare and
  • two representatives of uninsured consumers of County-funded healthcare
A resume or C.V. is also required for consideration for appointment to this advisory board. Please note, all information provided within applications will be made public. All applicants must complete the new form, even if they have applied previously since the application has been updated.


Employees, owners or voting board members of agencies that receive funding from Manatee County Government, or individuals who contract with agencies that receive County funding are ineligible to serve on the board with the exception of practicing physician who may receive no more than one percent of their gross income from county-funded healthcare.


Applicants should be willing to meet a minimum of eight times per year on the fourth Wednesday of each month from 5-7 p.m. on the 9th Floor BCC Conference Room of the County Administrative Center, 1112 Manatee Avenue West. Other meetings may be scheduled as necessary.

Health Council of West Central Florida

Applications are being accepted for three seats on the Health Council of West Central Florida (HCWCF) for representatives to occupy the seats of (1) Consumer of Health Care over 60 years of age, one (1) Health Care Provider, and (1) Health Care Purchaser/Consumer of any age.

The HCWCF is a private non-profit agency governed by a board of directors appointed by County Commissioners to represent the concerns of health care consumers, providers, and purchasers at the local level. HCWCF serves residents in Hardee, Highlands, Hillsborough, Manatee and Polk counties.

The Health Council consists of twelve members from 5 counties (Hardee, Highlands, Hillsborough, Manatee, and Polk). Manatee County appoints two members. One Manatee County position is for a representative who is a health care consumer over the age of sixty. The other position is for a representative who is a non-governmental health are provider. The additional vacancy for a health care consumer or purchaser of any age is not county specific and is currently vacant, unless otherwise filled prior to the County Commission’s appointment. Members must be residents of Manatee County. Health Council members serve for a 2-year term but no more than four (4) consecutive terms.

  • Healthcare Consumer is defined as any person other than a person who administers health activities, is a member of the governing body of a health care facility, provides health care services, has a fiduciary interest in a health facility or other health agency or its affiliated entities, or has a material financial interest in the rendering of health services. 
  • Healthcare Provider is defined as a health care professional licensed under Chapters 458, 459, 460, 461, 463, 464, 465, 466, part I, III, IV, V or X of 468, 483, 484, 486, 490, or 491. 
  • Healthcare Purchaser is defined as an employer in the state, other than a health care facility, health insurer, or health care provider, who provides health care coverage for her or his employees.

Applicants should be knowledgeable about healthcare and willing to meet on the second Thursday of each month at 3:30 p.m. at rotating locations within the region or at their corporate office located at 550 N. Reo Street, Tampa.
