Fitness Center Operations

Masks are required to enter G.T. Bray Recreation Center and where social distancing can not be achieved. Staff will instruct participants to take their temperature, scan in or make payment for reserved drop in services.

  • Reservations required. No drop-in use during this soft reopening phase.
  • Call (941) 742-5923 to secure a spot. Make reservations for each day as follows:
    • Call on Saturday for Monday reservations; Sunday for Tuesday reservations; Monday for Wednesday reservations; Tuesday for Thursday reservations; Wednesday for Friday reservations; Thursday for Saturday reservations.
  • 1-hour time slots are available every 1 hour and 15 minutes. The first session available is at 5:30 a.m., Monday - Friday and the last session available is at 6 p.m. on Monday - Thursday and at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The first available time slot for Saturday is 7:00 a.m. and the last at 10:45 a.m.
  • After the 1-hour time allotment, all users will exit the Fitness Center through the back doors.
  • Only 9 participants are permitted in each session. 1 staff member will always be present.
  • Staff will disinfect all touch points before the next session begins.
  • Participants are to clean before and after use of each piece of equipment.
  • Every other piece of cardio equipment will be available for use.
  • Please follow directional signage to reduce crossing paths with other participants.

The G.T. Bray Recreation Center boasts a fully stocked, state-of-the-art fitness center with the hottest trends in equipment.  Along with amenities of the fitness center, membership also includes a fitness orientation and unlimited access to the Bray Fitness Coordinators.  Whether you are trying to avoid the blazing Florida sun for your cardiovascular exercise or you are training for your next powerlifting meet, the Fitness Center at G.T. Men’s and Women’s Rooms are available, and each facility includes four showers, an ADA shower and lockers.

Drop in and visit Mallory every Wednesday and get a wellness check to measure:

  • Weight
  • Body Fat

  • Waist Circumference

After your evaluation, Mallory will come up with a program to help you reach your goal.

Class Descriptions


Cycle: Nothing beats an indoor cycle class! This is a low impact, high intensity cardiovascular workout designed to torch calories and increase leg strength and endurance. Open to all fitness levels. Be sure to bring a towel and a water bottle!

30/30 Cycle + Yogalates: 30 minutes of cycle and then the yogalates complementary phase of the class will provide a core-engaging, full-body toning workout. Adding resistance and intensity to each pose. Get ready to do a mix of Yoga and Pilates poses that involve all major muscle groups to build strength, while improving balance and flexibility.

Strengthen and Lengthen:  Come learn new moves in this 50-minute workout of total body strengthening and stretching exercises.

Cardio Flex: This low impact cardio class will get your blood flowing. Half upbeat aerobics followed by total body strength training.

Chair-obics: This is a seated class emphasizing basic arm, hand, leg and foot movements to increase an individual's heart rate.  This format will also encompass a wide variety of exercises with the intention to improve a participant's aerobic ability, coordination, strength, balance, posture, alignment, mobility, flexibility, and muscle tone.

HIIT: Hear of high intensity training?  We're taking it into the fitness center!  The tabata protocol is 20 seconds of all-out activity followed by 10 seconds of rest repeated for 8 rounds.  Get stronger, leaner, and faster in just 4 minutes at a time.

TRX Circuit:  This class utilizes the TRX and focuses on compound movements to help burn fat, build muscle, and strengthen the entire body.


Ballroom Dance: Whether you're a novice or seasoned dancer, this class is for you. Come to learn new moves, or as a refresher for all dance styles.  

Zumba: This Latin-inspired, easy-to-follow, dance fitness party exhilarates the senses and works all major muscle groups. This high energy cardio blast will leave you invigorated, refreshed, and full of life!

Bang Power Dance: This class takes steady state cardio activity and injects short bursts of higher intensity movement of varying lengths spaced at intervals to increase the effectiveness of the workout. These intervals are hidden within fun dance choreography though, so you'll barely know they're there!

MIND & BODY CLASSES (Please bring your own mat!)  

Vinyasa Yoga: A journey into the connection between mind, body, and spirit. Learn a greater understanding of flexibility, breath, and movement through a flowing sequence of yoga poses.

Relaxation Yoga: A time-out class to stretch, relax, and connect with your breath. A great class for everyone from kids to seniors, athletes to office workers, and those with sciatic troubles to tight hamstrings. This will be the best hour of your week!

Power Yoga: This faster-paced yoga class is great for those needing to improve flexibility, but who thrive on a tough workout. Extra focus will be placed on the hips and low back- those areas frequently abused and neglected by athletes.

Tai Chi: Tai Chi is a gentle healing art. It is an excellent way to open up the joints and stretch the tendons, which allows for greater mobility, and greatly replenishes energy. Open to all, it is a safe and effective exercise.

Balance & Mobility: If mobility is your goal, then this class is for you! We will engage in a variety of unique, functional exercises to improve body awareness, vision, hand eye coordination and balance.


Boot Camp: Increase your strength and cardiovascular endurance while pushing through bodyweight, plyometric, cardio, and strength exercises. While fit for any level of fitness, you will be sure to get the total body workout you need to start feeling stronger, leaner, and healthier!

Bray Beach Fit: Get fit at the beach!  This special, once-a-month class will incorporate bodyweight, strength, conditioning, resistance, and aerobic exercises to get you sweating in the sand!  First Saturday of the month (November-March) at 8am at Manatee Beach Park.

Aqua Fit: Get wet with this pool interval class!  No swimming experience is required to get a good workout in the water.  You'll use the resistance of your body against the water in timed intervals to get a great workout with minimal impact on the joints.  All levels are welcome.

Water Aerobics: A low impact fitness challenge suitable for every age and fitness level. Aquatic conditioning includes a combination of cardio and strength training for increased endurance, strength, balance and flexibility.

Young Muscle: For ages 13 - 18. Need muscle? This class is about learning the basic fundamentals of total body muscle building. You will not only grow muscle but gain knowledge on proper form, manageable progression and how your body works and grows together.

Certified Personal Trainer

The G.T. Bray Recreation Center offers Personal Training, which provides guidance and assistance with your individual workouts by creating a personalized fitness regimen tailored to meet your goals. The Certified Personal Trainers provide motivation, education, support, and guidance for all ages and fitness levels and will coach you through your workouts to ensure that you exercise at your full potential. 

Personal Training services are offered to individuals who are currently members of the Recreation Center. In an effort to provide an effective and affordable option for everyone, we offer both one-on-one and small group training.

Sessions for 1 or 2 participants:
$30/30 minutes 
$50/60 minutes 

Sessions for 3-5 participants:
$60/60 minutes

Meet the Trainers - Mallory and Preston

Mallory Carteaux has a Master's Degree in Exercise Science from the George Washington University, and is an NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. She has a variety of specialty certifications and focuses on strength, conditioning, flexibility and mobility, core training, and functional movements. 

Preston Higdon holds a Bachelor's degree in Athletic Administration and Nutrition from the University of Charleston, WV.  He is a certified personal trainer through ISSA (International Sports Science Association) and a former collegiate athlete.  Preston is committed to changing lives through functional fitness for all ages and skill levels.  His passion and expertise include sports performance, total body conditioning, core strengthening, and balance and mobility training.  He likes to remind his clients that, "Where there's a will, there's a way!"

Our Kids Club Center is convenient, safe, fun and a supervised environment available to all users with member priority. Our Kids Club program is here to provide you with peace of mind during your workout. Located near the front desk, our experienced (and background checked) child watch staff will play and interact with your child while you and your guests use our facilities. Our staff holds current certifications in First Aid/AED/CPR from American Red Cross or the American Heart Association.

Fee: Kids Club is included with all Recreation Memberships, up to two children.Each additional child will add $5 to your membership per month.
NON-MEMBERS - $5/hr (member priority - same rules apply)

Kids Club is on a first come-first serve basis, with a two hour participation time limit per day.  If we are at capacity, we will not be able to facilitate your need for child watch.  Please leave your cell phone number with us and we will call at the earliest opening.
