Personal

Commissioner Getman is originally from Sanford, FL and first lived in Manatee County in 1968 when stationed here as a new trooper with the Florida Highway Patrol. After serving Florida for 33 years, he retired in June of 2001 at the rank of Major, Troop Commander for Southwest Florida to become Executive Director of Crime Stoppers of Manatee County. Ron resigned from Crime Stoppers in June 2004 to concentrate full-time on his duties as a county commissioner. Ron is married to the former Vicki Scott and they have two children and five grandchildren.

Education

Ron graduated from Manatee Community College with an AS in Criminal Justice and completed management school at the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville.

Military Service

United States Air Force 1962-1966, serving in Okinawa, Japan and Bermuda.
