Protecting Our Community
Manatee County's wastewater systems are vital to protecting both our water resources and our community's health. These systems are a last line of defense against water pollution.
By carefully treating wastewater, Manatee County's treatment plants return clean water safely to the environment. The Manatee County Wastewater Treatment System treats wastewater through an advanced process at the wastewater plants and then reuses the treated effluent for irrigation. The treated effluent, or reclaimed water, can be seen in use all over town. Fire hydrants connected to the reclaimed water lines are painted a distinctive lavender color. This reclaimed water must meet tough Federal and State water quality standards in order to protect the public health and environment. To meet these standards, Manatee County employs state-certified plant operators who monitor water quality 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.
