The HazMat coordinator provides management, coordination, and compliance monitoring of federal/State regulations for approximately 500 public service Fire, EMS, Environmental, and Law Enforcement personnel who respond to hazardous materials emergency releases.

The coordinator standardizes the quality of response of 1st responders by maintaining, stocking, and inventorying 7 fully equipped hazardous material rapid response trailers. The trailers are fully stocked with personal protective equipment, environmental spill supplies, hazmat foam, decontamination tents, and a wide variety of meters in order to detect hazardous solids, liquids, or gases. 

 

 

Ongoing safety education is provided to 1st responders, businesses, and industries with the coordination of up to twelve training courses, exercises, and drills annually. 
The coordinator acts as the county hazardous materials representative; during EOC activations as the emergency support function 10 “ESF-10”, the Manatee County Fire Chiefs Association meetings, and as the Training chairperson for the Local Emergency Planning Committee.
