Youth Basketball
The Manatee County Parks and Recreation Department offers two seasons of Youth Basketball, a program that is designed to encourage youth of all ages (5-17), gender, and ability. The purpose of the league is to develop the fundamentals of the game and promote team play through teaching, training, and sportsmanship. By not overly emphasizing winning every game as a primary goal, we are able to encourage skill development, a positive attitude, and build self-esteem.
Once a player has registered, they will take part in a 3-week camp (included in registration) where all players will be able to "shake the dust off" and staff will be able to evaluate each player. Staff then creates teams of equality taking into account each child's age, height and ability. In addition, the Athletic Staff will review the coach requirements which will enable them to assign coaches so the teams may begin to practice. Teams will be scheduled eight regular season games and all teams compete in a season ending single elimination tournament.
Beginner or Experienced player, this league has a little something for everyone.
Parents, we even have something for you...Air Conditioned Gymnasium!
