Greenways and Trails
Manatee County’s greenways and trails network runs through the preserves, parks, and urban areas of the county. Several segments are in the planning and design stages but upon completion our network will connect with those of Hillsborough and Sarasota counties. Recreation opportunities vary between each preserve: hiking is permitted at all preserves, but some offer biking, fishing, horseback riding, kayaking, canoeing, hunting, dog walking, or all of the above! All trails are closed to motorized vehicles with the exception of those at Duette.

Fun and educational recreation programs are held monthly throughout the preserves; organized paddles, hikes, bikes, and dog walks are just some of what are offered. Please check the department calendar to sign up for the next trail trek.
Recreational Activities in the Preserves
The following is a list of activities permitted in the main preserves. In those areas where fishing is permitted, shore fishing is an acceptable practice – cast netting is not. In general, most of the preserves are open to the same basic activities but there are some exceptions; for example, leashed dogs are welcome in all preserves except Leffis Key, and motorized vehicles are allowed on trails only in Duette.
