Maps of Proposed Redistricting
Elections are the cornerstone of a representative democracy. Redistricting ensures that citizens have: equal representation in the U.S. House of Representatives, State Senate, and State House and equal opportunities to elect representatives they choose.
The maps below are proposed models for how Manatee County Commission districts will be reshaped to reflect local population trends to reflect the 2010 U.S. Census. View a map of the present day Commission districts.
Manatee County Commission discussed the proposed maps below on Oct. 25 and gave tentative approval for Plan D. The Manatee School District is also participating in this process with a goal of having district boundaries consistent with the County Commission. The District will give the public another opportunity to weigh in on the maps at a Nov. 7 Open House at Manatee County School Support Center, 202 Manatee Ave. W. from 5 to 7 p.m.
The public will have another opportunity to weigh in on the maps at a Nov. 15 joint meeting of the Manatee County Commission and the School Board. The two groups will take up proposed maps at 11 a.m. in the Manatee Room on the fourth floor of Manatee County Administrative Center, 1112 Manatee Ave. W.
Manatee County will advertise in a local newspaper the proposed map for two consecutive weeks as required by state statute. Following that period, the County Commission will take a final vote on the maps on Nov. 21.
Citizens who are unable to attend any of the public discussions may send comments and feedback on the maps to tellus@mymanatee.org.
