Green Steps to Sustainability
Manatee County Government saved nearly $480,000 in reduced electrical costs over the past year. We're saving energy and water, we're increasing energy efficiencies and we're making the most of our renewable resources. Learn more about these and a host of other initiatives Manatee County Green Team is taking to make Manatee County Government a truly sustainable organization.
The concept of sustainability has and always will be important to the Board of County Commissioners, the employees of County government and the citizens of Manatee County. This is evidenced by the forward thinking and often controversial decisions made such as building Lake Manatee and the Dam, buying conservation lands such as Emerson Point, Duette Park and Geraldson Farm, floating an old house down the Manatee River to relocate and save a historic structure, speed zones for Manatee protection or building a library.
Sustainability remains in the forefront in decision making as leaders balance the environment, the economy, and the human/social needs of our community. As you will see from the information in this report, reaching the goal of sustainability or being “green” is a work in progress. As science, technology, and information change on the issues of sustainability, we adjust our path but consistently take steps toward the goal.
