MANATEE COUNTY, FL (Sept. 10, 2010) – The 16th Annual Manatee Children’s Summit, the area’s biggest and most informative expo for parents and kids, is just around the corner. Dozens of local child and family organizations will have booths for kids and adults, each encouraging kids to use their imaginations as part of this year’s theme, “Reaching the Summit: Climb to the Top!”

The free event is open to the public and will be held Sept. 25, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Manatee Civic Center, 1 Haben Blvd., Palmetto.

At the summit, children and their families will have a chance to explore the many services and resources throughout Manatee County that benefit families. There will be a host of information for parents on child care, after-school care, mentoring programs, substance abuse prevention programs or life skills for children and programs for special needs. Parents can also have their kids immunized for free.

Kids can climb a rock wall, play inside a bounce house or enjoy a game or activity at any of the 120-plus booths. Local talent, circus acts, dance troupes and animal acts will be the live entertainment. Mote Marine Laboratory is scheduled to bring its touch tank. There will be giveaways and door prizes. Children’s Summit T-shirts, food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Last year more than 10,000 children and adults attended the Children’s Summit.

“This is a great event for kids and parents because of the fun that can be had by all,” said Mike Neuges, Manatee County Human Services Manager. “It has entertainment, activities, food, door prizes and, of course, it provides a great way to share information on the family services that are available in Manatee County.”

The Children’s Summit began in 1994 to give residents a better idea of family resources and to give children’s service providers a way to increase community awareness of child and family programming. Over the years, the Children’s Summit has become a great partnership of government, nonprofit organizations and the private sector. This year, as always, the event is funded through generous donations from local organizations and individuals.
