Manatee County invites public to G.T. Bray Park Recreation Center Grand Opening
MANATEE COUNTY, FL (Nov. 1, 2010) – Manatee County Parks and Recreation invites the community to take part in the Grand Opening of the G.T. Bray Park Recreation Center, a new “green” facility at the heart of Manatee County’s public parks system.
Visit the spacious new Fitness Center at 5502 33rd Ave. Drive W. and plan to take part in a free yoga, pilates, karate and other fitness demonstrations or take advantage of free health screenings during the Grand Opening, set for Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. There will be ongoing events throughout the new facility throughout the day, highlighted by a Ribbon Cutting ceremony with Manatee County leaders at 10 a.m.
The new facility features a Fitness Center with state-of-the-art equipment, a Multi-Purpose room for fitness classes, a WiFi Café with light snacks, a Teen Room with a Neos Wall -- a fast and fun video game/aerobic exercise.
“I’m most excited about the fact that we’ve been able to create a recreation center that’s efficient, green and there’s something there for the entire family,” said Parks and Recreation Director Cindy Turner. “I’m proud that, based on budget and size constraints, this design team built the best facility for our public. Essentially we constructed a campus-style recreation center by connecting the building to a gymnasium, aquatics center and tennis/racquetball facility.”
The new facility is one of Manatee County’s first LEED-Certified buildings. The facility has incorporated many construction features that will result in a reduction in operating costs of up to 25 percent when compared to the costs to operate the former administration and recreation buildings.
Cindy Turner will lead the first tour of the facility at 10:45 a.m. Subsequent tours will be offered every half hour beginning at 11 a.m. Health and fitness activities are scheduled throughout the day in virtually every room of the new building. Fitness instructors will offer free sample classes every half hour from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., including plates, yoga, Zumba, karate and more.
Health Care America will offer health screenings for anyone wanting a skin screening or an update on their blood pressure, BMI and glucose levels.
