Line break interrupts cell, landline service in Myakka, much of East Manatee

MANATEE COUNTY, FL (May 26, 2011) – A major line break of Verizon fiber lines has disrupted land line and cell phone service for an estimated 3,600 customers in Myakka and eastern Manatee County.

Manatee County Emergency Communications Center reports that customers with a 322 exchange – the first three digits after an area code -- can call and receive calls from others with the same exchange but they cannot dial other numbers, including 9-1-1.

Manatee County Public Safety Department has advised that anyone who cannot dial 9-1-1 with an emergency should seek help at the Myakka Fire Department at 10215 Wauchula Rd. Customers with a 322 exchange may call the fire department at 322-6523 for assistance.

Some western parts of Myakka can make 9-1-1 cell calls but the eastern part of Myakka cannot make any cell calls.

Verizon technicians are working to address the problem, but cannot estimate when the severed line will be repaired. No additional details are available at this time.
